AWAKENING INDIA
Awakening India is one of the initiatives of Missio foundation to build a banner for youth to share their knowledge and talents to create Awareness within the youth about HIV/AIDS in a very different style that suits the present youth.
Missio foundation concentrating on schools and colleges; to make peer group educators, student counselors, Awareness Building teams, Artisans teams , etc. Through these create awareness within the country.
Aim
To dispel the myths and misconceptions related to HIV/AIDS and raise awareness about its risks and need for behaviour change among the youth.
To create an environment free from discrimination and stigma.
To encourage the youth to volunteer themselves in the process of creating awareness.
PRESENT SCENERIO
India is a home to 70,000 HIV infected children. However, only 32,000 of them identified and 10,000 of them have been put on Anti Retroviral Therapy (ATP).
One out of every 8 children, below the age of 15, suffering from HIV/AIDS worldwide is present in India.
Every year, India reports 21,000 new pediatrics HIV infections every year.
